A man’s body was recovered from Dublin Bay after a vessel alerted the Coast Guard to an object floating in the water shortly after 4pm on Sunday.
The alarm was raised after the MS Seatruck Pace, a ferry operated by Seatruck Ferries, made the sighting approximately 1½ miles south off Howth head near Burford Bank.
The Dublin Coast Guard rescue helicopter, the Dún Laoghaire Coast Guard and Dún Laoghaire life boat were involved in the operation.
Postmortem
The body was brought to Loughlinstown hospital where a postmortem will be carried out on Monday.
It is thought the body may have been in the water for several weeks.
Gardaí at Dún Laoghaire are working to establish the identity of the individual and to contact his family.
However, it is thought the body is that of a man who had been subject to a recent Garda missing person alert.
