United Airlines flight UA101 was en route from Manchester to Washington with 155 passengers and nine crew on board when it diverted to Dublin.

The crew of the Boeing 757-200 told air traffic controllers they were experiencing a problem with an on board generator and that they wished to divert. The Boeing 757 has two main generators, one in each engine.

The crew also confirmed they would be making a ‘heavy’ landing. As a result, in keeping with standard procedures, airport emergency services were standing by for the plane’s arrival. It landed safely at 1.17pm.
