Have you ever been found wanting when it comes to checking your hotel room for items left behind? If you have, then you are not alone.
So far this year, Jurys Inn has discovered over 65,000 forgotten items in its 28 city centre hotels with guests leaving an average of 40 items in each hotel every week. The hotel group has released a list of some of the most commonly forgotten items in the hope of reminding people not to leave them behind.
1. Chargers
Increasingly an annoyance. The more we depend on those handheld devices we call ‘smartphones’, the more we need chargers and the more likely we are to leave them behind. The advice here is to place the charger cable on top of something you definitely won’t forget before you leave, such as your wallet, or better still pack it in your suitcase!
2. Keys
Keys open doors and forgetting them can lead to all sorts of problems. When travelling we often lay them down on unfamiliar surfaces in our hotel rooms, thereby increasing the chances of our forgetting them when we head for the door. Zip them into an inside pocket in your handbag or briefcase and leave them there until you get home.
3. Money & Jewellery
While it might be nice to leave some money behind to tip the housekeeping staff, that’s usually not the idea when people leave more substantial amounts behind or leave valuables such as wedding rings, behind. Empty the safe before check-out.
4. Toiletries
While hotel stays might mean “open-season” on hotel branded shampoos, conditioners and soaps usually on offer at hotels, you won’t feel so smart when checking for your expensive shampoo you last used in the hotel shower only to find a flimsy little sample-sized hotel bottle. The tip here is to leave your toiletries next to the sink where you can see them. You’ll remember them that way!
5. Undies
Weird one this. Apparently underwear ranks alongside toiletries as one of the items most commonly discovered by housekeeping staff after check-out. Just have a last look before you leave and check all the drawers and wardrobes.
6. Glasses
We usually wear glasses for a reason. If they happen to be sunglasses, it is probably to provide us with some protection from the sun. In the event that they are not, they may assist us in reading or in simply seeing what is in front of us. Losing them then is not to be recommended. Put your glasses in your bag when you’re finished using them rather than leaving them lying about the place.
7. False teeth
This is maybe more of a trend amongst lone travellers for obvious reasons.Take a look in the mirror before you leave and if you notice any funny looks hen you’re checking out, check em again, you might have left your gnashers behind.
