Pedestrian (28) dies after being hit by car in Co Galway

A pedestrian (28) died after a road collision in Loughrea, Co Galway early on Sunday.

The man was struck by a car near the town on the N66, Loughrea-Galway Road after 5.30am.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was taken to Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe where a postmortem will take place.

The man (19) driving the car was not injured.

The road was closed for forensic collision investigation.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone travelling the road between 1.30am and 5.30am on Sunday to contact Loughrea Garda station on 091-841222, The Garda Confidential Line 1800-666111 or any Garda station.
