Pedestrian dies after being hit by SUV in Carlow

A man has died after being hit by an SUV in Carlow in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The pedestrian, in his early 40s, was fatally injured when he was struck by the vehicle on the R725, Castledermot Road, Tullow, Co Carlow at about 4.30am. The man's body has been taken to University Hospital Waterford where a postmortem examination will be carried out.

The driver of the SUV was uninjured.

The Thomas Traynor Road to Rathbawn Lane is currently closed to facilitate an examination by Garda forensic collision investigators and diversions are in place.
