The results of a postmortem examination on the body of a 42-year-old man found on a garage forecourt adjoining Kerry General Hospital in Tralee on Friday have proved inconclusive and toxicology results are awaited.
Nigel Leigh of Gortroe, Foss, Killarney had been brought to the hospital by ambulance from the garda station in Killarney on Thursday, April 2nd, after being arrested for an alleged public order offence near his home.
His body was found at around 6.30 am near a car wash at Kelleher’s Garage alongside an exit point from Kerry General. It is unclear whether he left the hospital or was discharged some time earlier.
Mr Leigh had suffered from health issues according to his solicitor Padraig O'Connell, who described his client as "a gentleman and always courteous".
It is known that Mr Leigh suffered seizures, possibly linked to epilepsy.
As a result of Mr Leigh having been in contact with gardaí before his death, the incident was referred to the Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) and an investigation was launched.
They have appealed for information from anyone who may have encountered the man in the early hours of Friday, or anyone with information which may assist the investigation to contact them on 1890 600 800.
