A shop in Limerick city has been named as the seller of a winning Lotto ticket worth €2.9 million.

It emerged on Thursday that Coughlan’s Gala store on Quinlan Street had sold the lucky ticket for Wednesday night’s €2,951,364 jackpot.

Sean Coughlan, who owns the shop, said it was the first time his store had sold a winning ticket.

“Speculation is rife” as to who the winner might be, he said. “We have a lot of offices on our street so maybe it’s a work syndicate.”
