Organisers of the Dublin’s 02 arena have moved to assure concert goes that tonight’s DJ Hardwell show will be “a safe and enjoyable” evening.
Last night in Belfast seventeen teenagers were taken to various Belfast hospitals amid scenes of mass drunkenness outside the Odyssey Arena in the city’s docklands.
Fourteen young people are still receiving treatment for alcohol and drugs use following what the emergency services call “a major incident” at Belfast’s largest entertainment venue last night. All are understood to be in a stable condition. Some 5,500 fans are expected to attend tonight’s show in the O2 Dublin.
A spokeswoman for the O2 Dublin said the safety of their customers “is always of our paramount concern” and that they will take “every precaution” to ensure there is no trouble at the event.
“As would be our practice for this type of event, tonight’s concert we will have a full team of medical, security and stewarding staff,” said the spokeswoman.
“This in a strictly over 18s event and has been widely advertised as such. No-one under 18 will be admitted and ID will be required to gain entry. Anyone arriving at the venue in an intoxicated state will also be refused entry. The venue and promoter are providing 23 non-public duty Gardaí who will patrol the event,” she said.
The spokeswoman added that the number of Gardaí will be “ augmented by significant further Garda resources working in a public order capacity - all of which would be normal for an event of this type.”
A Garda spokeswoman said there would be no more Gardaí working at the event tonight than usual.
Hardwell was crowned ’World’s No.1 DJ’ in the 2013 DJ Mag Top 100 DJs Poll; the youngest ever winner of the coveted Top 100 DJs award.
