Three die in weekend crashes

Three people died in crashes over the weekend.

A man in his 20s died after he was hit by a car on the Naas Road near Newlands Cross in west Dublin early yesterday morning.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to contact them.

In a separate incident, a woman (61) died in Co Kilkenny when the car she was driving was involved in a collision with another vehicle at Carrigunura, Slieverua, on the New Ross to Waterford road.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was brought to Waterford University Hospital. The driver of the second car, a man, was also brought to the hospital with minor injuries.

A 63-year-old pedestrian who died after being struck by a 4x4 as he walked home in west Cork in the early hours of Saturday morning has been named as John Bowen, from Rossmore, Co Cork.

The incident happened just outside Durrus village on the Sheep’s Head peninsula. The driver of the 4x4 was uninjured.
