Spring has sprung this weekend, as Met Éireann forecasts a dry and largely settled few days ahead.

The continuously unsettled and stormy weather of the past few weeks will be replaced by a frosty but sunny start to the day on Friday.

Cloud will appear in the afternoon, bringing isolated showers, and highest temperatures of between 7 and 9 degrees.

It will turn colder overnight, with ice patches, as temperatures fall back to between minus 3 to zero degrees.

However, the weather will turn more seasonable on Saturday, when it is expected to be a dry and sunny day with light winds.

The morning will be cold and frosty, but temperatures will increase in the afternoon, ranging from 7 to 10 degrees.

It will be cold and mostly dry on Saturday night with just the chance of an isolated shower along eastern and southeastern coasts.

Lowest temperatures will be between minus 3 to minus 1 degrees, with coldest temperatures in the west of the country where frost and ice will form again in near calm conditions.

Sunday will be cloudier, though it will stay mainly dry with light, isolated showers in the east.

Afternoon temperatures will be between 7 and 10 degrees in moderate east or southeast winds.

It will be another cold night on Sunday night with clear spells and isolated light showers. Lowest temperatures of zero to minus 2 degrees with a moderate southeast breeze.

Monday will be colder, breezier and cloudier, with patches of rain or drizzle, chiefly affecting southern and western counties. Temperatures in the afternoon will be between 6 and 9 degrees.

A cloudy and breezy night is forecast for Monday night, with patchy light rain and drizzle mostly affecting western and southern coastal areas.

Lowest temperatures of plus 1 to plus 4 degrees in strong and gusty southeast winds.

Tuesday will be a mainly dry and cloudy day, once again with patchy light rain and drizzle affecting coastal regions. Temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees are forecast, with southerly breezes.

Current indications suggest Wednesday and Thursday will turn increasingly windy with outbreaks of rain likely.
