Men in their 20s attempt two break-ins, ram Garda car with 4X4 and speed from scene

Two in men in their 20s were arrested on Thursday morning after they tried to break into two premises and drove their vehicle into a Garda patrol car.

The two men had attempted to gain entry to a house in Whitehall and a shop in the Santry area, but were unsuccessful.

Gardaí spotted the men in a black 4X4 vehicle at Hillcrest Park Glasnevin, at about 6am on Thursday morning.

Gardaí followed the vehicle into Glasnevin Park after it failed to stop. A patrol car was then rammed by the 4X4, which sped from the scene.

A garda was injured in the incident, though the injuries are not reported as serious.

The two men were arrested when their vehicle was intercepted in Ashbourne, Co Meath at 6.45am.

Both are currently detained at Ashbourne Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
