Three-car collision in Thomastown causes death of 68-year-old, other man’s car struck pier

Two men have died in separate road traffic incidents in Co Tipperary and Co Kilkenny.

A 68-year-old man was fatally injured after the car he was driving was involved in a three-car collision at around 11am in Thomastown, Co Kilkenny.

He was treated at the scene by emergency services but died a short time later.

His body was removed to Waterford Regional Hospital.

Separately, a 78-year-old man was fatally injured when the car he was driving left the road and struck a concrete pier on a local road at Gortnahoe near Thurles, Co Tipperary.

The man was treated at the scene but died soon after.

His body was removed to University Hospital Waterford for a postmortem examination. He was the sole occupant of the car.

The road was closed and local diversions were put in place. Garda forensic collision investigators attended the scene.
