Two pedestrians injured after being hit by car in Cork

Men were crossing at pedestrian crossing at eastern end of Albert Road in city

Gardaí in Cork are appealing for witnesses after two pedestrians were injured when they were struck by a car while crossing a street just off the city centre early Wednesday morning.

The two men were crossing at a pedestrian crossing at the eastern end of Albert Road at around 8.15am when they were knocked down by a car.

The men, both in their late 20s, suffered impact injuries and were taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital as a precautionary measure.

The driver of the car, also a man in his late 20s, was uninjured in the collision which led to major traffic disruption on the Albert Road area.

Gardai were called to the scene and closed off Albert Road to allow a garda forensic crash investigator examine the scene and the road is expected to remain closed until at least 11am.
