Under 18s will be turned away from Avicii gig, says MCD

Ticketholders have until June 29th to seek full refund with ticketmaster

Gardaí and MCD have warned ticketholders for the upcoming Avicii concert in Marlay Park that they will be refused entry to the event if found to be under 18.

Garda ID will be required and under 18s will be refused entry to the event without a refund. However, ticketholders have until 5pm on June 29th to seek a full refund with ticketmaster.

Gardaí have also said there will be a zero tolerance policy regarding alcohol consumption in public areas around the venue while anybody caught with alcohol will be refused entry to the event until the alcohol is disposed of.

Melvin Benn from Festival Republic said that strict ID checks will be carried out at the gates.

“I will tell you, the check-in will be rigorous, and we will not be allowing under 18s in. It’s a very clear commitment from myself as the producer of the show, it’s a very clear commitment from MCD as the promoter of the show, it’s a very clear commitment from the gardaí,” he said.

“We have more security at the event with 30 to 50 per cent more stewards than last year,” he added.

“There will be searches upon point of entry both by stewards and gardaí,” Garda superintendendent Peter Duff said.

There will be a “no alcohol” policy on public and private transport, and attendees who arrive intoxicated will be refused entry without a refund. Mr Duff said that a strong Garda presence is expected within the concert venue and Gardaí may conduct random searches.

“Alcohol and anything which may be considered dangerous will not be permitted. If anybody creates a disturbance or a breach of peace they will be arrested and removed from the concert area,” he added.

Ticketholders have been urged to respect the privacy and property of local residents and businesses and to use public transport when travelling to the event and to book return travel in advance of the event.

Avicii is set to headline the first Marlay Park concert of the summer on Friday, July 3rd, while Paolo Nutini and Imelda May will perform on July 4th. The Longitude festival will take place at the venue from July 17th - 19th.
