"Vote No.1" - Election Poster Failures

Photographer Mark Duffy takes a look at self-inflicted poster failures during the General Election campaign

Speaking about his "Vote No.1" photobook project the photographer commented - The Irish landscape was littered with electoral campaign advertising during the 2014 European, local and national by-elections. "Vote No. 1" documents this and examines the culture of election advertising in Ireland. The series focuses on the accidental, and often gruesome, disfigurements the electoral candidates faces suffer - an unintended consequence of their posters erection. These images reflect the Irish electorates increasing disillusionment with the political process after years of harshening austerity politics.

Vote No.1 by Mark Duffy has recently been published as a book by AnzenbergerEdition. It's available to buy from The Bastion Gallery (Athlone) The Library Project and the Gallery of Photography ( both Temple bar, Dubln) or online. It will be exhibited in Paris from March as part of the Festival Circulation(s). This recent set of follow up images was taken during the 2016 general election of candidates in constituencies between Galway and Dublin.
