All fired up The Street Performance World Championship takes place as part of the Laya Healthcare City Spectacular this weekend at Merrion Square in Dublin.

Street performer acts such as fireball-breathing, back-flip sword-swallowing and head-spin break dancing will join 13 musicians playing live. The free family festival will have a food village, children’s court and a petting zoo from noon-8pm.

Island antics The fifth Valentia Island King Scallop Festival will see fans of scallop flock to the island off the coast of Kerry today and tomorrow.

The judging of the "scallop cook-off" where locals compete to be crowned Mr King Scallop will take place tomorrow night.

Other highlights of the festival include a junior triathalon, rugby blitz, cricket match, angling competition, live street music and a craft fair.

Fun at the festival The Galway Fringe Festival kicks off today in Galway, and will be host to more than 100 local and international acts.

It will have visual arts, theatre, dance, cabaret, circus, street spectacles and children’s events.

The festival encourages Irish language arts though story-telling and music.

Full cycle The UCI Track Cycling International Grand Prix will take place at Eamonn Ceannt Park, Sundrive Road, Dublin, today and tomorrow .

Newly crowned Irish road racing champion Ryan Mullen will compete against top track riders from countries including Germany, Brazil and Venezuela.

Spectators are welcome to the free event taking place from 10am-5pm Anyone for snail? The annual world snail-eating competition is part of the celebration of Portarlington's French heritage and culture which takes place today and tomorrow.

There will be plenty of French food and wine-tastings, workshops, a market village, street theatre and live music.

Driving on in Blarney The Blarney Car Show returns to the village square today from 10am-5pm, and all cars are welcome. There will be music, cars and entertainment through the day.

It costs €10 per car on the day, and all profits go to the Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind.
