Gardai in Co Cork have appealed for witnesses to a fatal collision between a car and a lorry near Macroom.
The collision happened at about 5.40am this morning on the N22 at the Four Mile Bridge just west of Lissarda village.
The emergency services were alerted but the driver of the car - believed to be a man in his early 40s from the Bantry area - was pronounced dead at the scene by a local GP. His car had burst into flames after the crash.
His body was brought to Cork University Hospital for a postmortem examinatio. The driver of the truck was treated for shock.
The road was closed for several hours and diversions were put in place to allow a Garda forensic crash investigator examine the scene.
Gardai have appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or have any information that can assist them to contact Macroom Garda Station on 026 20590.

In Co Carlow, a man in his 40s died when his car hit a 4x4 vehicle on the N80 at Kilnock, Ballon, Co Carlow at 4pm this afternoon.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two male passengers in his car, aged in their 20s and 40s, were taken to St Luke’s General Hospital, Kilkenny.
A man and woman in their 60s who were travelling in the 4x4 were taken to Kilkenny Hospital.
