Woman dies in house fire in Cork

A woman in her 60s has been found dead following a house fire at her home in Bishopstown on the southside of Cork city.

Emergency services attended at the scene at Curraheen Drive, Curraheen, Bishoptown shortly after 6pm this evening. A member of the public raised the alarm.

Three units of the city fire brigade went to the assistance of the woman. However, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman was the only occupant of the house. Her dog also died in the blaze.

Gardaí are investigating the circumstances of the fire. However, it is not being treated as suspicious.
