A woman in her 20s has died in a single ar crash in Co Mayo early today.

The driver died when her car hit a lamppost and a pillar on the N17 at Lurga, Charlestown Co Mayo between 7.30am and 8am.

She was pronounced dead at the scence nad her body was removed to Mayo General Hospital, Castlebar for a post-mortem. Gardai in Charlestown are investigating.

Yesterday two people have died in a two car collision in Newry, Co Down . The man and woman lost their lives when a blue Ford Fiesta and a brown Nissan Qashqai crashed around 5.25pm yesterday afternoon on the Dublin road.

The 19-year-old man driving the Ford died at the scene while the 67-year-old woman passenger of the Nissan died later in hospital.

Yesterday in Co Galway a woman in her 50s died in a road crash near the village of Moycullen (Maigh Cuilinn) yesterday.

She was driving the car which struck a wall on the N59 Galway to Clifden Road at about 4.30am yesteday.

On Friday night two soldiers, both 24, died in a collision with a tractor on the Ballyconnelly Road, Cullybackey in Co Antrim.

The men confirmed they had been serving in the 2nd Battalion The Rifles based in Lisburn. Another man in the car, aged 21, received head injuries that are not thought to be life-threatening. The driver of the John Deere tractor was treated at the scene for injuries that are not believed to be serious.

Police have appealed for witness to both crashes to come forward.
