A woman in her 70s was killed after the car she was driving collided with another car in Co Galway this afternoon.

The crash occurred at Two Mile Ditch on the Tuam Road around midday.

The driver of the other car and five passengers including three children were taken to Galway University Hospital, where their injuries are described as non life-threatening.

The road was closed for a time to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators but has since reopened.
