An ambulance was called but because the incident happened in a remote area a distance from the road the HSE’s Aeromedical Coordination Centre asked the coastguard for assistance to transport the woman to hospital.
Shortly after 3.25pm the coastguard tasked the Shannon-based Rescue 115 helicopter which reached the woman shortly after 4.15pm.
The helicopter brought the woman to Bishopstown GAA club which is adjacent to Cork University Hospital.
She is being treated for abdominal injuries.
