Worker dies in hospital after explosion at Youghal workplace

A 21-year-old man from Co Waterford has died in hospital after being injured in an explosion in an industrial estate in Youghal in east Cork on Wednesday morning.

The man from Clashmore, who has been named locally as Donal Scanlan, was working at B & C Metal Fabricators at the Foxhole Industrial Estate in Youghal when he was injured in the explosion at 9.30am.

It is believed he was working on an oil tank at the metal fabricators when the explosion occurred and he suffered serious injuries in the blast.

The death is being investigated by gardaí and the Health and Safety Authority.
