The weekend is set to be a mixed bag in terms of weather with a wide range of events happening over the next three days, including Longitude festival at Marlay Park.
Met Éireann forecaster Evelyn Cusack said “it’s a typical Irish summer weekend with mixed weather and no extremes”.
“It will be quite mild with warm sunshine at times and temperatures peaking into the low 20s. There will be some cloud coming in from the Atlantic bringing some showery rain from time to time but sunshine as well.”
Friday
There will be some sunny spells, but generally cloudy, misty, wet weather will develop over parts of Ulster and Connacht in the afternoon, with the rain turning persistent and heavy later. Much of east Munster and south Leinster should remain dry with top temperatures of 17-22 degrees.
Longitude festival will open for business at 2pm on Friday at Marlay Park and run until approximately 11pm for three nights. Organisers have urged people to use public transport with large numbers expected.
The Inflatable Colour Run takes place at Newbridge House from 7.30pm with tickets priced at €23.95 for adults.
The Church Cafe Bar and Restaurant is celebrating Bastille Day in Dublin with French cuisine and music all day.
The West Cork Literary Festival also begins on Friday with speakers including Anne Enright, Eimear McBride, John Boyne and Sarah Moss.
Saturday
It will be warm and humid but quite breezy. Northern and western areas will experience some rain and patches of fog. Rain will become more widespread by the evening with some bright or sunny spells developing. Top temperatures of 17-20 degrees in northern and western areas and 21-24 degrees elsewhere.
Spar is hosting its FitLive 5km and 10km runs in the Phoenix Park from 10am with tickets priced €15-€25. The Grand Dublin Swim takes place at Custom House Quay at 1pm.
Tipperary face Armagh (Semple Stadium, 5pm) while Carlow take on Monaghan (Network Cullen Park, 7pm) in Round 3B of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship qualifiers. Both football qualifiers will be shown on Sky Sports 5.
Sunday
It will be mostly dry and bright with sunny spells in all areas. Cloud is expected to build up at times too with some moderate westerly breezes. Top temperatures are between 17 and 21 degrees.
The Galway Film Fleadh runs throughout the weekend and finishes up on Sunday with its Closing Night Gala with the Galway Street Club.
Dublin take on Kildare in the Leinster Senior Football Championship final at Croke Park at 4pm. Throw-in for the Minor final between Dublin and Louth is at 2pm.
Meanwhile Down and Tyrone will meet in the Ulster Senior Football Championship final at 2pm in Clones. Both games will be broadcast on RTÉ2 from 1.30pm.
