An Irish peace activist, Ms Caoimhe Butterly, along with three Palestinian teenagers, was injured by gunfire yesterday as Israeli troops pushed into the northern West Bank town of Jenin and its refugee camp.
Two of the Palestinians, aged 14 and 19, were in a critical condition after being shot in the chest after four Israeli tanks and six jeeps raided the camp and opened fire on stone-throwers who were defying a curfew.
Mr Dave Jarmulka (22) a US activist with the International Solidarity Movement (ISM), said Ms Butterly (23) was lightly injured in the leg by shrapnel from Israeli machineguns.
Ms Butterly has spent time in the Palestinian territories since Israel briefly reoccuppied the area earlier this year. She worked with other foreigners to provide protection to Palestinians as an international presence. - (AFP)
