The winner in RTÉ's You're A Starwill represent Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest in Latvia after the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) ruled the winning song, We've got the World, is an original.

In a statement today the EBU said it was "satisfied that RTÉ's entry [to be sung by Mickey Joe Harte] is an original song, and we wish Ireland well in the contest".

Mr Kevin Linehan, Commissioning Editor for Music, and Head of the RTÉ Delegation to Eurovision 2003, said: "RTÉ is delighted with the outcome, particularly for the composers, Keith Molloy and Martin Brannigan. We are pleased that the EBU agrees with RTÉ's view that We've Got the Worldis an original composition".

The EBU had asked RTÉ to submit two songs after it received "a flurry of e-mails and telephone calls" alleging the Irish entry was similar to the Danish Eurovision-winning song in 2002, Fly On The Wings of Love.
