Workers at the Irish Glass Bottle (IGB) factory warned today they were prepared for a "long haul" of strike action in their row with management over severance pay.
About 100 striking staff at IGB are this morning marching on the offices of the employers' group IBEC to complain that management had failed to honour a redundancy package agreed at the Labour Court.
The protesters will then march to Leinster House before heading for Fianna Fáil Head Office in Upper Mount Street.
The IGB plant in Ringsend is set to close next month with the loss of around 380 jobs. The now-disputed severance deals were hammered out recently at the Labour Court.
Mr Daithí Doolan, Sinn Féin's election candidate in Dublin South East, said: "All the workers understand the wider implications of this strike, that they are not only striking for themselves but also for the future of industrial relations in the State.
"I believe the strike committee will decide on further action down the line, to keep the light of publicity shining on this very important industrial dispute."
He added that morale was high and the workers were prepared for the long haul.
Yesterday, workers brought traffic to a standstill when they blocked the road at Dublin's East Link Bridge. Minimal disruption is expected today.
