Irish group buys top London boutique hotel

A private Irish investor group led by Donegal-born hotelier Michael McBride has acquired the Hempel Hotel in London.

A private Irish investor group led by Donegal-born hotelier Michael McBride has acquired the Hempel Hotel in London.

The group plans to make significant additional investment to the €50 million already invested in the hotel since its establishment in 1997.

The hotel is famous for its minimalist aesthetic inspired by designer Anouska Hempel.

Mr McBride is the former general manager of the Herbert Park Hotel, Dublin, and spent many years at premium international hotels including the London Hilton on Park Lane and the George V in Paris.

The Hempel is located a short distance north of Hyde Park and close to Paddington Mainline Station.

Part Zen temple part luxury hotel, the Hempel boasts 40 oversized individually designed luxury bedrooms and six apartments overlooking the Zen Garden.

I-Thai, the hotel's signature restaurant focuses on "oriental fusion" cuisine.
