A chartered flight returning 150 holidaymakers to Dublin from Majorca was delayed for over 10 hours yesterday

A chartered flight returning 150 holidaymakers to Dublin from Majorca was delayed for over 10 hours yesterday. Carrier Spanair blamed weekend disruption to air traffic control in London.

The flight, scheduled to depart at noon yesterday, left shortly after 10.30 p.m.

Holidaymakers due to leave Cork Airport at 9.30 p.m. on Saturday for Las Palmas finally left at 11 a.m. yesterday. Those returning to Cork from Las Palmas on the same aircraft were unable to leave the resort until 7 p.m. yesterday.

A second flight due to leave Cork for Ibiza at 11.30 p.m. on Saturday was also grounded and passengers were bussed to Shannon Airport.

A spokesman for Aer Rianta at Cork Airport said two of the four flights scheduled to leave yesterday for London were delayed for 30 minutes while the 6.50 a.m. flight to Amsterdam didn't leave until 11.25 a.m.
