Preliminary estimates of Irish industrial earnings for March 2005 show the average weekly earnings rose by 5.3 per cent when compared with March 2004, according to the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

Hourly earnings rose by 5.1 per cent while average working hours remained unchanged for the same period.

Average weekly earnings of all employees (industrial, clerical and managerial) rose by 5.1 per cent, consisting of increases of 5.3 per cent for industrial employees and 4.1 per cent for clerical and managerial employees combined.

However, industrial employment was 237,300 down almost 5,000 over the same period.
