The seasonally adjusted volume of industrial production for manufacturing industries for the three-month period March to May was down 3.6 per cent on the preceding three months.
On an annual basis production for all industries in May this year was 3.4 per cent lower than in May 2004, according to the latest figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO).
The modern sector - comprising a number of high-technology and chemical sectors - showed an annual decrease in production for May 2005 of 2.3 per cent, while a decrease of 5.3 per cent was recorded in the traditional sector.
The seasonally adjusted industrial turnover for manufacturing industries was 0.1 per cent higher in the three-month period March to May when compared with the preceding three-month period.
On an annual basis turnover in May 2005 was 2.9 per cent higher than in May 2004.
