THE DEPARTMENT of Foreign Affairs has confirmed it is providing consular assistance to the family of an Irish man reportedly killed in a dog attack in Malaysia.
The department said details were sparse but it could confirm that 50-year-old Maurice Sullivan had been killed and the Irish Embassy in Kuala Lumpur was providing assistance to his family.
A spokeswoman said it was unclear whether Mr Sullivan was travelling in the country or was on a package holiday when he lost his life yesterday.
The Singapore based Straits Timesquoted Penang police chief Ayub Yaakob saying Mr Sullivan had ventured into the organic farm with his 28-year-old Polish girlfriend to take photos of its orchard when he was set upon by the dogs.
