Irish people made 12 per cent more trips abroad in August this year compared with the same period last year.
Some 815,600 overseas journeys were made, according to Central Statistics Office data released today.
Visits to Ireland also increased with 962,700 people visiting the country in August, a rise of 3.6 per cent.
Visits from North America during the month were down 3 per cent - perhaps reflecting the impact of a weaker dollar; visits from British residents were up 2 per cent; and visits from the rest of Europe grew by 9.4 per cent.
