IRISH people who believe their health has been or could be affected by silicone implants have been invited to join a legal action being taken in the US, according to the Department of Health.

The action has been begun against the Dow Corning Corporation, which manufactures silicone based implants.

A number of medical organisations and support groups has been asked to provide notice to complainants in order to preserve their rights to make claims.

It is believed that the largest class of potential claimants are those who have had silicone breast implants, but the legal action is to incorporate claims concerning a wide range of silicone products, including orthopaedic joints.
