A northern Ireland man and a serving Irish soldier facing charges in connection with the murder of Mr Terence Madden (52) who was shot dead in Co Sligo in January were further remanded until next month by the Special Criminal Court yesterday.

Mr Michael Joseph Herron (30), single and a native of Belleek, Co Fermanagh, with an address at Chapel Street, Ballyshannon, Co Donegal, is charged with the murder of Mr Madden at Monasteraden, Co Sligo, on January 28th. He is also charged with possession of a sawn-off shotgun with intent to endanger life at Monasteraden on the same date.

Mr Michael Doohan (33), a single man in the Defence Forces, of Ashbury Lawn, Ballinode, Co Sligo, is charged with intentionally causing serious harm to Mr Madden at Monasteraden on January 28th.

The court remanded both men on continuing bail until April 27th.
