The Irish football squad and hundreds of supporters have started arriving home from the Faroe Islands today after being stranded overnight due to fog.
One charter flight touched down at Dublin Airport shortly before 1pm with another one due at 3.40pm.
The unscheduled extra night in Torshavn last night caused a minor scramble for hotel rooms.
Fog also prevented hundreds of other Irish fans from reaching the Faroe Islands after flights to Torshavn were cancelled because of the adverse conditions.
Two flights are due this afternoon, and it is hoped the fog will have lifted sufficiently to allow the flights depart.
Speaking after the 2-0 victory, Republic of Ireland manager Brian Kerr said he remains convinced than his side's World Cup destiny will not be resolved until the final game of the campaign.
It would appear Ireland's Lansdowne Road battle with Switzerland on October 12th will prove the defining moment in whether they head to Germany, face a play-off or are eliminated.
As Group 4 stands, Ireland lead Switzerland by a point, Israel by two and France by three, but with the Swiss and French having played a game less.
