Kevin O'Sullivan has been appointed assistant editor - special projects. He will be responsible for special editorial projects. He is at present acting editor of the new Irish Times health supplement which appears on Tuesdays.
A native of Tramore, Co Waterford, he joined The Irish Times in 1996 when he was appointed environmental and food science correspondent. He became assistant news editor in September 2000. Since then he has also edited special coverage of major news events including the foot-and-mouth crisis in 2001; the Special Olympics last year and recent elections. He has also edited many news feature series on the environment and health, and was attached to the foreign desk at the height of the war in Iraq.
He is a science graduate from University College Dublin and a journalism graduate from Dublin City University. He previously worked with the Tuam Herald and the Connacht Tribune newspaper group.
