The Irish Times was named best national newspaper at the Millennium Irish Print Awards held in Dublin yesterday.
This is the fourth year in a row that The Irish Times has scooped the top award.
It was presented to the press and publishing manager, Mr Freddie Snowe by Mr Helmut Clissman, managing director of UPM-Kymenne, which sponsors the category, at a ceremony attended by more than 300 members of the industry.
The Limerick Leader won the prize for best regional newspaper. Nicholson & Bass, a Belfast company, was chosen as printer of the year. It last picked up the top trophy in 1998.
The trophy for best printed magazine went to Smurfit Web Press for its work on House & Home magazine.
The managing director of Killarney Printing Works, Mr Paddy MacMonagle, was elected to the Irish Printing Hall of Fame.
He has been in the business for 61 years and is president of the Irish Master Printers' Association. The Hall of Fame was established by Irish Printer magazine, which organises the annual Irish Print Awards.
Portraits of the laureates are displayed in the National Print Museum at Beggar's Bush Barracks in Dublin. Mr Peter Robertson of De La Rue Smurfit in Bray, Co Wicklow, won the BASF printing systems young manager of the year award, while a Dublin company, Inkspot, was named best small printer.
