The Irish Times Social and Racial Affairs Correspondent, Nuala Haughey, has won the Overall Media Award at the 2003 Metro Eireann Media and Multicultural Awards (MAMA).

The awards, now in their second year, recognise and celebrate outstanding contributions of activists, journalists and others to creating cross-cultural understanding and co-operation in Ireland. Individuals and groups were awarded prizes in three categories: Multicultural Awards, Media Awards and a Special Judges' Award.

A MAMA spokesperson said that Haughey's article "Living in Harmony" looked "honestly at the situation of different ethnic groups around the country who are being integrated into various systems and local communities".

"Nuala interviewed many people to get a rounded view of the situation, and succeeded in presenting a real and compelling picture of the different non-national communities," they said.
