Mr Arthur Beesley of The Irish Times was named Transport Journalist of the Year for 2001 at a ceremony in Dublin yesterday.
The award, sponsored by the Chartered Institute of Transport in Ireland, was for a series of articles during the year on CIE, Aer Rianta and Aer Lingus.
The annual award is for journalism which makes "the greatest contribution to the debate" on current transport issues.
The institute president, Mr Michael Walsh, said Mr Beesley was to be congratulated for "a consistently high standard in journalism during the past year in which the issues confronting all transport disciplines, including the economics and politics of the relevant semi-state organisations, were examined and explained in detail."
The institute is the professional body for those engaged in transport and distribution.
