The body of an Irish woman is understood to be among three bodies found by police at a house in east London.
The bodies of the 29-year-old woman and her four-month-old baby girl lay undiscovered for a week before they were found by police yesterday afternoon at the flat in Birchdown House, Devons Road in Bow, east London.
The body of the woman's 49-year-old former partner was also found at the property.
The father is believed to have killed his former partner and their baby at their flat before killing himself, it emerged today.
It is understood the dead woman is from Blackrock in Co Dublin. She moved with her partner, believed to have been Algerian, to London within the last six months.
Metropolitan Police officers went to investigate the flat after social services called to say they had not seen the woman and her child for some time.
When they arrived, officers found the mother with stab wounds. There were no obvious injuries to the man or the baby and post mortem examinations are being conducted to establish how they died.
Officially their deaths are being described as "suspicious".
However, police have described it as a domestic incident and are not thought to be looking for anyone else in connection with the inquiry.
The investigation will be handled by a murder team from the Met's Child Abuse Investigations Command.
Scotland Yard said today: "At approximately 4.45pm yesterday we attended an address in Birchdown House, Devons Road, after concerns that the residents had not been spoken to for some days.
"Inside the address officers discovered the bodies of a 29-year-old woman, a 49-year-old man and a four-month-old female baby.
"All three were pronounced dead at the scene.
"We retain an open mind regarding the circumstances at this early stage."
Tonight the flat was still roped off with uniformed police officers still stationed at the front and back of the property.
