A 24-year-old Irishman living in Australia has been killed following a suspected gas explosion at a house in the city of Darwin.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the explosion which happened at Hudson Fysh Avenue at 6.30am local time yesterday.
It was reported that the man was working with gas cylinders which are believed to have ignited, causing the explosion.
NT News reported that the explosion is thought to have set off other bottles in an explosion which blew the doors off a vehicle, caused damage to a nearby house and shattered the glass in neighbouring houses in the suburb of Parap.
The Department of Foreign Affairs said last night that the Irish Embassy in Canberra was in contact with police in Darwin following reports that an Irish citizen had died but added that no identification had been made.
