The Irish Stock Exchange (ISE) has reported record levels of equity trading volumes and turnover for the first six months of the year.
The ISE said total half year trading was €54.8 billion, up nearly 46 per cent on the €37.5 billion for the same period last year.
This represents the highest turnover in the exchange’s history.
The average daily equity turnover was €441 million compared with €298 million in the first six months of 2004. Companies traded on the ISE raised a total of €818 million in the six-month period.
The average number of transactions per day was 3,149 compared to 2,596 in the first half of 2004, a 21 per cent increase.
The ISE said this demonstrated the underlying liquidity of the market and reflected an increased level of investment in equities by private investors.
The Irish equity market outperformed most global indices with a 5.5 per cent increase in the ISEQ Overall Index in the year to date.
