The Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ISPCA) has moved to clarify confusion over former Miss World Rosanna Davison’s participation in aid of the charity at Monday’s Flora Dublin women’s mini marathon.
Ms Davison ran the race in an impressive time of 43 minutes, which would have put her in the top 60 for the 10km event. However, her number and time were not on the list of competitors who completed the race, giving rise to speculation on RTÉ’s Liveline programme over whether she had completed the whole course.
ISPCA communications officer Carmel Murray yesterday said Ms Davison had taken her own number to run the race, as she had not registered in time. “She asked me if I had a spare race number, which isn’t unusual when some of our participants can’t make it,” she said.
“I had none so I gave her mine, because I’m not a competitive jogger.”
Ms Murray said those who were questioning Ms Davison’s time did not realise how good a runner she was, as she had completed the event it in 51 minutes in 2011 and had achieved a time of 48 minutes recently. Ms Davison could not be contacted last night.
