Jerusalem - Israel yesterday urged foreign governments to halt what it termed the growing number of anti-semitic incidents worldwide in the wake of clashes between its troops and Palestinian protesters, the foreign ministry said.
"These anti-semitic incidents, which include the torching of synagogues, the desecration of Jewish cemeteries, physical attacks against Jewish individuals, graffiti and slurs, should elicit shock and disgust among all civilised people", the ministry said in a statement.
Meanwhile, US authorities are investigating whether an explosion at a synagogue in northern New York state could be connected to the situation in the Middle East, a police source said yesterday. Temple Beth El in Syracuse, New York, was set on fire by an explosion, the source said, adding that there were no victims.
