Jerusalem - Israel yesterday sent a field hospital to Turkey to help treat victims, an Israeli army spokesman said. The hospital will be located at Adaparazi, 150 km east of Istanbul.

The 75-member medical team is headed by deputy defence minister Mr Ephraim Sneh, and Colonel Chesi Levy, who also led a similar operation in Macedonia for Kosovo refugees in April.

The hospital includes an operating room, X-ray and ultrasound facilities and 100 beds.

Another Israeli relief team which left for Turkey on Wednesday is operating in Golcuk, a Turkish naval base near the epicentre of the earthquake. Israeli radio reported that the team was trying to rescue a man who was still trapped under ruins.
