Israel's ambassador to Ethiopia was shot and wounded by an unidentified attacker in Addis Ababa, officials said, in what the Israeli Foreign Ministry said was not believed to be a "terrorist incident".
Ambassador Doron Grossman was found critically wounded in his home on last night, Israeli officials said.
"Apparently we are not speaking about a terrorist incident," a Foreign Ministry spokesman said. "A professional team ... is heading to Ethiopia to check the circumstances of the event."
He said Mr Grossman was at an Ethiopian hospital and the Israeli government was trying to bring him home to Israel for treatment as soon as possible.
