Israeli soldiers shot dead an eight-year-old Palestinian boy today during unrest that followed Israel's cancellation of plans to relax travel curbs in the West Bank and Gaza for a Muslim holiday.
In other bloodshed, troops killed an armed Palestinian in Gaza in an off-limits area near an army post on the border with Israel, the military said. Israel television said Palestinian gunmen killed an Israeli in the West Bank city of Bethlehem.
The violence erupted after Israel reversed a decision to loosen its grip on Palestinian movement in the West Bank and Gaza Strip for the four-day Eid al-Adha holiday, citing a surge in suicide bombing threats.
Palestinian hospital officials in the West Bank city of Qalqilya said the eight-year-old died after being hit in the chest by gunfire from troops attacked by stone-throwers. They said 10 other Palestinians were wounded.
Israeli military sources said soldiers in Qalqilya had fired at three Palestinians who had thrown petrol bombs at them. The sources said they had no immediate information about Palestinian casualties.
At least 1,825 Palestinians and 701 Israelis have been killed in the revolt led by Palestinian militant groups, which erupted after US-brokered talks on Palestinian statehood in territory Israel captured in the 1967 Middle East war broke down.
