Israeli soldiers shot dead a 19-year-old Palestinian near the Karni border crossing in the Gaza Strip today, medical workers said.
The medical staffers said Mr Ahmed Baannar, a resident of a village near the Karni crossing on the Gaza-Israel border, was shot in the back by a single bullet. They said no clashes were taking place in the area at the time.
Head of the emergency department at the Palestinian health ministry Mr Mwaiyah Hassnein said his medical workers told him that Mr Baannar was killed while walking in the street and that he was not throwing stones at Israeli soldiers.
The Israeli army said it was checking the report.
Mr Baannar's death brings the number of those killed since a Palestinian uprising erupted in late September to 345 Palestinians, 13 Israeli Arabs and 65 other Israelis.
