Suspected Palestinian gunmen shot dead an Israeli woman in a roadside attack today near a Jewish settlement outside of Jerusalem, Israeli security officials and medics said.
The attack occurred hours after gunmen killed an elderly Israeli settler, who held a US passport, near the West Bank city of Bethlehem in an attack claimed by a militant group allied with President Yasser Arafat's Fatah faction.
Security officials and medics said the latest shooting occurred near the settlement of Givat Zeev, five kms from Jerusalem.
The Magen David Adom ambulance service said one woman was killed and another Israeli wounded in the night-time attack.
The violence followed an explosion in the West Bank city of Tulkarm yesterday that killed a Palestinian militant. Israeli security sources said Israel was behind that death but the defence minister said the militant had been killed making a bomb.
