Rome - Two days after the end of the G8 summit in Genoa, the anti-globalisation movement was back on the streets yesterday evening, but this time without any violent incidents, reports Paddy Agnew. A series of protest demonstrations, called by the Genoa Social Forum, were held in cities throughout Italy at the allegedly heavy-handed policing at the G8.

Watched by befuddled tourists, an estimated 50,000 people turned out in Rome. While in Genoa, about 10,000 demonstrators gathered in front of the Palazzo Ducale, seat of last weekend's summit. There, many remembered Carlo Giuliani, the protester shot dead by police.

In Athens, one man was injured and three others were detained when anti-globalisation protesters marching in central Athens clashed with police, officials said.
